CRM 2011 Dashboard questions

Question
-
Hi, I've just started to look at dashboards in Dynamics CRM2011 and wonder if anybody can answer a couple of questions for me:
If I include a chart on a dashboard to show, say, sales by quarter for a specific territory, is it possible to use one chart on a single dashboard but link it to a territory lookup or filter control elsewhere on the dashboard (so that only data for the chosen territory is sent to the chart)?
When you click on a bar or column chart to drill-down, you get the ‘Select field’ dropdown and chart type icons. Is it possible to add a script that automatically selects a specific field and chart type to save the user from having to manually choose?
Thanks, Ian

Hi Ian
I understand your requirement of having a common filter across dashboard components. While this feature is not present in CRM 2011, we are evaluating the possibility of bringing communication across dashboard components in the next major release.
Your feedback is valuable.
Thanks
Aditya

Hi Ian
It is not possible to dynamically filter a chart on a dashboard from a filter/lookup present on a different component on the same dashboard.
Workaround:
1. Modify the view you are using to create the chart by adding Territory(Owning User) as one of the columns. You may do this using Advanced Find.
2. Edit your dashboard - Insert a list component of opportunities with the view created above and 'chart selection' enabled.
3. Save the dashboard.
Now you can use column filtering on this list to filter the chart. It might be interesting to know you can also click on a chart area to filter the list.
Coming to your 2nd question, unfortunately we do not support pre-populated drilldown list.
Thanks
Aditya

Hi Aditya,
Thanks for the workaround suggestion. It does partly achieve what I was looking to do although am I correct in assuming the user has to manually enable the Chart Pane for the view each time the dashboard is viewed?
Also, is there any way a second chart on the dashboard could be linked to the same filtered view? I'd like to have one chart showing sales value/quarter and another showing sales volumes/quarter but with both charts being filtered by the same [user-selected] territory?
Thanks, Ian

Was there ever any update on this, given that we are now looking at Polaris imminently and Orion not too far away?
Hope this helps.
