  Help? I've tried a lot of things so far, and I am terrified at the idea of spending 60 dollars for a phone call, 150 for a new OS, or 300+ for a new laptop. I'm a student; I need food, and I need my laptop working properly again.

  For some reason, your PC is unable to properly read the SLIC table that should be present in the BIOS.

  Please try the below steps to recreate the Store with the correct data.
  
  1) Open an Internet Browser window.
  2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
  3) Find the file CMD.exe
  4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
  5) Type: net stop slsvc (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
  6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
  7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
  8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
  9) Type: net start slsvc
  10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
  11) Restart your computer twice.

  You may be asked to enter your COA Key and/or Activate. – if asked for the Key, use the one on your COA sticker, on the machine’s case.

   

  Once complete, run another MGADiag report and post back with the results

  Nope, no malware. I got it to run after realizing I was doing some stupid things (like missing spaces...cough). However, when prompted to enter the product key, I did and I got an error (and stupidly clicked too fast to really read it). It said something about missing a file in the software.   OK – you need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker (it didn’t take last time)

  Click on Start

  in the Search box type

  SLUI  3

  This should bring up the Change Product Key wizard – follow the instructions.

  In that case you're entering the wrong Key - you MUST enter the one from teh sticker on the case, NOT one you retrieved using Keyfinder software such as Magical Jelly-Bean, or Belarc Advisor.

  The Key you've been finding is the OEM_SLP Key, which is already installed, and which requires a working SLIC table (yours has got broken, somehow) to be able to self-activate. It cannot be activated in the normal way.

  See if the manufacturer’s website has a Vista-compatible BIOS update available. This will sometimes cure the problem – although they are not supposed to contain the marker, they occasionally do, (post back with your exact make and model number if you need help with finding the right BIOS)

   

  If that doesn’t work, then your only options will be

  1) A Clean install using the manufacturer’s Recovery system

  2) Purchase a Retail Full License for Windows 7 (as buying Vista copies is a risky business), and do an Upgrade install with that – or a clean install.

  3) Buy a new PC.
