Also, OneCare will need to successfully establish a connection with the server to download the new information about your paid subscription.
If you have a connectivity problem, caused by third party Firewall software or proxy software OneCare may not be able to reach the server to update the application with the subscription information from the server.
You can create a support log (Change Settings / Logging Tab / Create a Support Log) and look in the Miscellaneous section for connectivity error codes like "0x80072EFD" or "0x80072EE2" which can indicate that OneCare can't reach the server.
Try and remove any third party security software from the computer, reboot and let OneCare update itself.
