Invalid activation key RRS feed

  • Hello, I have a problem after installation of the SP1 on my Windows Vista Home Basic.
    I have already activated my license, but today I have installed SP1 by automatic update. I cannot work with my data anymore after installation finished!!!! And computer needs new activation.

    Automatic activation ends with error code 0xC004E003.
    Activation via phone doesn't work as well - the provided MS code is not valid????

    Ugh - pretty service pack!

    Could you provide me some solution?

    Thank you for visiting the Genuine Advantage forum.  Your issue is related to Windows Product Activation.  In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may or may not help.

    From the Desktop:

    a) If you have access to the Start button: Click the Start button, and type in "slui.exe 4" in the search field and then press the "Enter" key. This will bring up the Activate by Phone dialog window. Follow the steps provided by the window. The phone activation process should only take about 6 minutes.


    b) If you do not have access to the Start button: Reboot and login to Vista, a dialog window will come up. In that window, click the option "Access computer with reduced functionality". Once you do that, Internet Explorer or Firefox browser will open. In the address bar type "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" press enter, a new window will come up, type: slui 4 and hit enter and follow steps to Activate over the Phone.

  • Hello Stephen,

    thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I have already tried the activation via phone. The provided activation key from MS activation phone line is not accepted by the computer:(

    PS: I did it once more. The message box states: The activation code doesn't conform the installation ID for this computer. Please check it.

    just for your information - I had to reinstall the whole computer.
    Unfortunatelly the local MS support was not able to solve this issue as well.
