Windows Home Server Toolkit - Can't Install RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm trying to install Windows Home Server Toolkit because I have a file that I cannot delete (it's telling me it has an invalid file handle) so I'm trying to determine how many files have invalid handles and what, if anything, I can do about them.

I installed the connector software.  I downloaded the add in.  I copied it to the Add-Ins folder under Software.  I open the console and I try to go install the add in and there's nothing there.  It doesn't list it at all.  I've tried adding the program from both the server and a connected computer but no dice.

So I have two problems:  1.  A file with an invalid handle that I cannot delete, and 2.  I can't install add-ins.

    Your help is appreciated.

  • OK, thanks to the advice in this thread I have successfully installed the toolkit and run it.  The resulting text file is 59 MB.  I started looking through it and I can't tell heads or tails what it is telling me.  Here's an excerpt:

    Then below it it states:

That's the file I can't delete and what got me started on this journey.  It tells me "invalid file handle".  So what do I do then, search for the word "failed"?

    1.  Can someone tell me how to read the log file?

    2.  Why is my log file 59 MB?  Does it list every pickin file on my server or something?

    3.  How do I delete that file listed above?

    4.  Should I try to send this log file to MS?

Yes, please do. Zip it up and please forward it to me at whsforum@microsoft.com

  • I might not have it anymore.  I got frustrated and wiped WHS; a lot of time got wasted in the process of making that log file. Sad  All I was doing was resolving redundant files.

If I have it I'll send it along.
