Genuine XP Pro - then fails MS Office validation - then passes Windows validation? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

This is not causing me much hassle at the moment but having just loaded Office 2007 I think the Office update site may have a problem.

My copy of XP Pro passes validation and was taken from the MS Academic Alliance through a Glasgow University - so I presume MS are supplying genuine copies of their own software.

It is only when I go to the MS Office update site that I have experienced this "Validation Failure" but when I run the tool to check my copy of XP Pro - it passes validation and I get the "thank you for purchasing genuine MS software".

Any ideas what may be wrong with - I presume - the Office validation tool.

    Cheers,

    George

  • Hello GeMo

Please re-run the MGA Diagnostic Tool and then paste everything as is and do not edit anything. This will allow me to analyze what is happening with your Windows XP. Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue. I have extracted a portion of your diagnostic results to review with you:

    OGA Data-->
Office Status: 114 Blocked VLK 2
    OGA Version: Registered, 1.6.21.0

We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is and why you are not passing validation.  Unfortunately, the product key used to install Office Suite is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder.  As a rule, VLK editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VLK editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.

    Thank you,

  • GeMO,

Please remove Microsoft Office XP Professional with FrontPage then reboot your computer. This is showing you as having a blocked VLK and may be conflicting with the other office installed. Next you should be able to get the updates you require.

    Thank you

  • GeMO,

Let’s split your thread off so we may focus more attention on your particular situation.  Also can you post this question in the Office Genuine Advantage Forum?  Splitting threads are done to mitigate confusion caused by more than one posting about similar   topics allowing us to focus on each customer individually.  Please post your question here http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=442&SiteID=25 in a new thread of your own.

In order to receive the best support, we request all users to initially run the Genuine Diagnostics tool.  The tool will try and identify the individual issue you may be experiencing.  Also, please provide a brief synopsis describing the issue including any error messages or codes. These can be found in the lower left hand corner of most Genuine Advantage Web pages when an error is encountered.

Please download and run the MS Genuine Diagnostic Tool utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a New Post on this Forum.

Step 2 is telling us about the COA. Tell us:

    1. What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. DO NOT post the Product Key.

    5. Please also provide a short description of the issue you are experiencing.

NOTE: The data collected with the Genuine Diagnostics Tool does NOT contain any information that can personally identify you and can be fully reviewed, by you, before being posted.

  • Hi,

Validation tool says my copy is genuine.  I know this to be true!!!!  I have a genuine copy of Office 2007 (I know this to be true also).

When I go to the normal windows update my software passes validation.  When I go to the Office update site my copy of XP Pro (SP2) fails validation.

Any idea why this is happening when both items are genuine?

Cheers - and if you want me to post this in another place please provide the full url to that topic thread not the general main entry to the Forum!!

    George.

  • Hi,

MS Office 2007 I have on disc - direct from MS and is labelled x13-03889 ********** Office Ultimate 2007 Win32 English disk kit direct not to US.  Posted from MS in Ireland.  Labelled that the packaging contains genuine MS software. With the usual certificate of authenticity.

MS Office is passing validation - Win XP pro is failing validation on the MS site for Office.

The diagnostic tool appears to show Office is genuine? (from my limited knowledge)

  • Hi,

This appears to have worked.  Quite confusing when the error message on the Office site stated that "Win XP Pro" had failed validation.

Thank you for all assistance - this is appreciated.
