Hi Karan,
The field needs to be filled with the name of the SMTP server (FQDN or NetBIOS).
>>I gave the path in location as the server address of my ms crm server and when I tested the connection it works fine,
With regards to it working even though you've typed the name of your CRM Server. This can be because the SMTP virtual server on the CRM server might be enabled. And it could be relaying the messages to your exchange server.
In most secure networks the exchange server would refuse relayed messages and putting the name of the crm server in the location box would not work.
Hope this answers your question.
Hassan.

Open the IIS on your CRM Server.
You'll be able to see the staus of the SMPT virtual server from the list.
To stop the server.
Right click on the Default SMTP Virtual Server and click stop.H.

Hi Karan,
You need to type the name of the SMTP server in the Server text box. You can type the NetBIOS name or the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the server.
Recommend you download the email router configuration document from the link below.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8ea05b4e-825a-4db1-ad59-d894aa5ef33e&displaylang=en
The document has the screenshots and description of all the fields you need to set.

But I am confused. Is that outgoing mail server on exchange server.
I gave the path in location as the server address of my ms crm server and when I tested the connection it works fine,
but i want to make sure, is this the right way. or I have to give location of my exchange server.
I am not much aware about e mail functionalities and features in generalThursday, February 11, 2010 1:28 PM -
You can type in the FQDN or NetBIOS name of your Exchange server.
You could also type in the SMTP server of your ISP
