Sudden - Windows Vista Validation Error!!! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi my Vista suddenly is no longer valid?

Hi - my Vista Ultimate is suddenly no longer valid. I've tried manually entering the serial via slui.exe 3 but this says it's not for this version of Vista, but the code is for Ultimate, so very confused? What should I do - the Diagnostic Report is below. Any help much appreciated! Thanks

  • Hi ParaagAmin,

    Please try the below steps:

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You will be asked to enter the Product Key and reactivate.

For some reason, when a Key that should be accepted but isn't, will be accepted after following the above steps.

    Thanks,

    Darin MS

What Key are you entering? – if it ends in 24W6P then you are using the wrong one. You *must* use the one from the COA sticker on your machine. If the COA sticker is for other than Ultimate, then your installation is non-genuine.

  • The key ends in **FDG. It is a Dell desktop I bought directly from them 4 years ago and is a genuine copy therefore I'd assume? The code i'm using is from the sticker on the machine
