CRM 2011 Outlook Client not showing all columns in Opportunity Views

Question
-
Versions:
CRM: 2011 On-Premise - 5.0.9688.1533
Outlook: 2010 Professional - 14.0.6122.5000 32bit
CRM Client for Outlook: 5.0.9690.1992
Basic Problem
The Outlook Client views that show up in Opportunities do not have all the columns that are in the view. Some of the views do, but not all of them.
Example:
View Name: Won Opportunities
Columns in view: Created on, Location, Quote Type, Scope of Work, Quote Number, Booked Sale Date.....8 other columns (many custom columns)
Columns in View in Outlook: Icon, Quote Number, Categories, Flag....thats all.
Other Notes
This only happens in the Opportunity section of the Outlook Client. This does not happen in advanced find in Outlook or anywhere in the web client. This does not happen for any other entity.
This happens on all of our users Outlook clients.
I have tried recreating the view.
No error messages are recording in any logs that I can find.
Any ideas on why this is happening or how to fix it?
Thank you
Paul

I finally put a call into Microsoft. The problem seemed to be with some bad XML...not sure how it got that way. The solution (from Microsoft) was to remove ALL columns from every bad view, save the view, then readd the columns...it seemed to work.

Hi Paul
Have you tried adding the desired columns from View ribbon tab > View Settings > Columns ... (You can also do this by right clicking in blank area of the Outlook grid > Add Columns)
Thanks

Monica;
Yes, I have added the fields manually for one user, it does not save the changes. Even if it did I cannot ask all 100+ users to manually recreate all the views.

Hi Paul
Have you tried creating System Views? These views are persistent to the entire org. You can do so as follows:
- In the Navigation Pane, click Settings.
- Under Customization, click Customizations.
- In the Customization area, click
Customize the System. - Under Components, expand Entities, and then expand the entity you want.
- Click Views.
- Click New in the toolbar and create the view you want.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,

Monica;
Yes, all the views I am talking about that will not display the correct columns are Public System Views.

Hi Paul
Can you outline the steps you took and provide some screenshots so I can fully understand what you did to help you diagnose the issue?
Thanks,
MonicaWednesday, April 25, 2012 6:32 PM -
Ok...ill give it a try
Here is the view in CRM Web Client (notice the columns)
Here is the view in the Outlook Client (notice the columns...not the same as the web view, but it is the same public view). This is happend on all but one public view for Opportunities and only that entity.
Hope that helps

This is strange indeed. I've never seen this happen.
But here are a few things off the top of my head:
1. Are you sure this is a System View and not a User Defined View? Can you take a screenshot of all the availalbe Outlook views when you click on the little down arrow to add a new view?
2. What happens when you close the view and add it back?
3. What happens when you restart Outlook? I ask because if you customized your System Views, those are only persistent for a given session. If your restart Outlook, then it should reset the View.
4. A workaround - have you tried creating a new System View similar to the one you want?
Thanks,

1. Are you sure this is a System View and not a User Defined View? Can you take a screenshot of all the availalbe Outlook views when you click on the little down arrow to add a new view? Yes. See the screen shot at the bottom. It is a public view.
2. What happens when you close the view and add it back? same results.
3. What happens when you restart Outlook? I ask because if you customized your System Views, those are only persistent for a given session. If your restart Outlook, then it should reset the View. we have tried that. and uninstalled Outlook client and reinstalled. And uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled. Same results. The only view that works for opportunities is the Default Custom View. The strange thing is that the filters are working just fine. just not the columns.
4. A workaround - have you tried creating a new System View similar to the one you want? Yes. same results

Hi Paul
Uninstalling and resinstalling Outlook will not fix this issue as expected since the views are coming from the server and not Outlook.
For 1. I was looking for this screenshot to look at the different views you have available to you in Outlook and whether they are System Views or User Defined Views. Can you provide me the screenshot?

Hi Paul
Sorry for the late response. Can you also give me a screenshot of your Advanced Find of the System View - "My Closed Opportunities in Current Fiscal Year"? If it is not showing up all the columns in the Advanced Find of the same view, then your will need to add the desired columns.
As well, the views in Outlook do not refresh immediately, it often takes an hour or so to refresh. So after ensuring you have the right column set, wait a couple of hours or so to see if they show up.
Thanks,

yes, the advanced find (in both the Outlook Client and the Web Client) shows the correct columns. I also doubt this is a timing issue because it has been weeks that it has been like this.

Hi,
I have a similar problem. In the Opportunity View I can see the "Manager (Owning User)" BUT this column is empty when my boss looks at the view. The column filters work perfectly for him, and a dashboard of the view works perfectly for him, so the data is definitely there OK. Why is the column not showing the data in my bosses case?
Dynamics CRM 2011 en-premis, Outlook client and Web Client.

Trying to filter Opportunities showing Owner (Territory Sales Manager, TSM) and Owner's Manager (Regional Vice President, RVP):
If the Opportunity Advanced Find has the clause "Owning User (User) -> Teams -> Team Equals TSM" Then the "Manager (Owning User)" data is missing from the results. The data is there and will appear on charts based on the view, just not displayed in the results!
If this clause is removed from the filter then the "Manager (Owning User)" data is displayed OK!
Workaround is to use the following clause instead:
"Owning User (User) -> Manager Equals list of RVPs"
Poor workaround with hard-coded list but using Team is just not working.

I found that in my case i had to edit the Active ..view and the Quick Find view.. of the entity. I removed the columns apart from one. CRM does not allow you to save the view without a column. I saved the view then added the columns back, saved the view again and published my entity. That fixed the problem.

Please try this if anyone runs into the problem again and finds this post: Save and republish the entire Solution rather than just the Entity and it's view. If you highlight the "Components" in the top of the tree, it will expose the "Save" and "Publish All Customizations" for the entire Solution. This fixed it in our case. The piece that this fixed? In our Quick Find views/Add Find Columns nothing was selected (no columns were used to search against and be indexed- a state that is not technically possible because you can't deselect all columns from the Find Columns screen and save- you'll get a warning that at least one column must be selected).

I had the same issue on Microsoft CRM 2013 Service Pack 1, rollup 2. I had a custom Account view wich did not display the name of accounts when opening the view in Outlook. When I removed the account name column, saved, and readded; the data in the column was available.
