Can you recover a system drive using a different Power Pack? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I bought one of the HP MediaSmart servers (EX475) about a year and a half ago and the system drive appears that it may be failing so I am planning on replacing it. Doing the "System Recovery" procedure after replacing the drive seems simple enough, however, I know I installed both Power Pack 2 and Power Pack 3 since getting the server and I'm pretty sure the recovery DVD that comes with the system does not have either of those installed.

Am I going to run into problems trying to run the recovery process using a DVD from a different level Power Pack?

Or is it just a case of replacing the drive, doing the recovery, and running Windows Update a bunch of times to bring it back up to the proper level?

    Has anyone done this?

  • With the HP Mediasmart servers, you do need to use the recovery disk that came with your server. There will be no conflict, however, because that recovery disk will wipe the system partition and refresh the operating system. So it's a matter of your last option: run Update Now... in the console a bunch of times.

  • Sounds good. Just wanted to make sure the difference in Power Pack version wasn't going to corrupt my data or something. Thanks!
