Preparing for 70-511 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have purchased self paced learning kit for 70-511 exam.

    Is that material is sufficient?

I am not using WPF in day - in day - out work.

what all other material is required to clear this exam?

what is ideal time for preparation?

    please advise.

  • Hi, bkinnari.

Be aware that these older Visual Studio 2010 exams will be retired after July 31, 2014. If you are working towards your MCPD, you will need to pass all four (4) exams before then. Here is the latest Visual Studio exam retirement schedule:

In no way should you assume that this book is sufficient to help you pass this test. This is especially true for most developer exams. You should never assume any one resource will have all the information you need. If it were that easy, everyone would pass them on their first attempts. However, this book will give you an excellent foundation to learn much of what you need to pass the test.

Since you already bought the book, take a look at it's reviews on the US version of Amazon.com. The US version seems to have the most reviews. The whole purpose of the book is to help people pass the exam. Reviewers will be brutally honest in telling you where the book is solid and where it left out important exam topics. Know that everybody has a different skill level in different areas so the reviews will conflict. However, it will give you a sense of the book's quality. Also, check out the reviews' comments, if any. Here are the reviews for your book:

Take advantage of other resources that you have available to make sure you pass. Many of these resources are free and can fill in some of the gaps. Here are my recommendations for you. These ideas can be applied to any Microsoft developer exam.

Use the exam's Skills measured section to make sure you study every topic for the exam. Expand each section and then look at the additional study links they give to help prepare for that section. Check them all out!

Use MSDN, Channel 9, Microsoft Virtual Academy, and other web sites to learn these topics.

Here is a great list of links (albeit old) for helping you prepare for 70-511. I found this along with many other resources by going to http://www.microsoft.com and searching on the exam number. Pretty simple!

Be sure to check out the Microsoft team blogs for additional resources, such as this one:

Make sure you request and use a Second Shot voucher when you register for your exam. That way, if you fail, you can retake it again for free just by re-using the voucher when re-registering for the exam.

Good luck and don't give up.
