  • A slow virus scan could indicate a conflict with other real time security protection being active on the PC. It may also be a bug with the current release of OneCare in that many people who did not have a problem with v1.6, began experiencing terribly slow scans with v2.0. If you have any other antivirus software, real-time spyware protection, or similar security software installed, remove them, If the problem persists, contact support.

  • The OneCare program ran on my computer without difficulty on Dec. 8, 2007.  It runs extremely slowly now.  So slow, that it would probably take several months to complete the "Full Service Scan."  I have made no major changes to my computer since my December scan (for example, my virus software is the same) and my computer seems to be operating fine (I have the XP Home Edition).  Did OneCare change to v2.0 after 12/8/07?  If not, what do you think might be causing OneCare to run so slowly?  Thank you in advance for your reply!

I think you may be referring to the online free version of the OneCare Safety Scan. If so, the following answer does *not* apply to you and you need to head over to the Safety Center Community -

If you meant OneCare, installed on the PC:

See this post to resolve slow scanning in OneCare version 2.0. http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2707364&SiteID=2

OneCare v2 was originally released in November, but upgrades were halted in December and resumed in January.
