Help With Genuine Microsoft for an "Upset 60 yr. youngster"--please

Question
-
My puter was bought, i think in 1998 or '99. It is an emachine-Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Preinstalled. After 1 1/2 - 2yrs. it was hit by lightening-through phone lines:(. I had the whole insides worked on & more ???? added. So I could do more things. I had a stroke in 2001 so I don't always remember a lot of things. This computer is not for a business or anything important. It is only for my personnal use, such as email to friends & family, playing games, etc. I do no harm to any one and it is also a good tool in keeping my mind active as well as my right hand for therapy. All of which was affected in the stroke. I am so sorry, I get side tracke sometimes, also part of the stroke. I am guessing that maybe microsoft software wasn't used when it was worked on. But I don't understand.....I have a lot of microsoft things listed when I click on "start". I have downloaded microsoft patches, etc. and never had a problem. As I said in the Title...I am a 60 Yr. old youngster that is computer illiterate. I am so thankful for the "steps" that pop up on the side it helps me get through this. I can't afford to get genuine Microsoft. Am I leaving my puter open to any danger even with 3 Spy Wares? I have Spy Ware-search & destroy, Adaware & AVG 8.5 I check my computer often and check for new downloads & download when they are available. Can any one help me? I hope I haven't been to confusing, if I have I apologise. I hope I have given all the info that is necessary. Thank you and GOD Bless.......KittiKat01Sunday, September 13, 2009 7:37 PM

It is people like you that are so smart and have all the answers and it is people like me that run to you with all the stupid questions. Just in case you have not read my history.....this 60 yr. young had a stroke in 2001 and is totally a knuckelhead when it comes to a lot of things......the puter is one of them. What you just patiently typed out made all the sense in the world to you, but it was the largest case of Greek to me I have ever seen. Please, do not get me wrong, I totally appreciate all the help anyone tries to give me, but it really has to be in the simpliest form there is. I know that is asking a lot and I apologize from the very beginning and the bottom of my heart. If Microsoft had just left me alone in my little world, I would have been just fine. I was not bothering a sole and doing no harm to anyone. Now, I can't do much of anything on my puter without all kinds of weird things happening that have never happened before. I never thought I would hate a program before, but I have gottem to where I do not care for Windows very much. I just don't have the kind of money they want for me to buy the program to correct the problem that some one else made. Well, that sure felt good. LOL> I have been unwell for a few weeks, which is why I have not been back on to answer any of this or try anything. Thanks for letting me vent, thanks for your patience and trying to help a real nutcase......lol......GOD Bless, have a Blessed weekend and you aare all in my Prayers.

Dear Darin Smith,
I still do not know how to clip & paste(?) see note or letter to hello "piece of cake". I also apologize to you for not answering sooner, I know your time is valuable, but I have been unwell and just not up to even touching a keyboard.
Thank you for your patience.....as soon as I figure out how to do "what you said" I will get it done and maybe we can get this thing taken care of.....thanks ever so much. Have a Blessed weekend......KittiKatt01- Marked as answer by KittiKat01 Friday, October 2, 2009 11:48 PM

To help us troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing, please download and run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool. Once you run the tool, click on the Continue button, then click on the Copy button and paste the report into your post. Thank you!

Thank you for your suggestion. I did as you told me.....I guess you thought I was kidding when I said I was computer illiterate. When you said to "paste the report to your post".....I literally froze. I know that must be so hard for some of you to believe since it is probably second nature to you. I even tried to call my daughter to get her to help me over the phone so I would not have to let you see just how dumb I really am. But, to no avail. So, I am here before you, bareing my soul.....I do not know how to copy & paste. Thank you for your patience and kindness over some of these questions that must seem so boring to you. GOD Bless & have a Blessed week. KittiKat01Monday, September 14, 2009 11:05 PM

Hello KittiKatt01,
When you download and run the mgadiag file, it opens up its own window on the screen.
After the utility runs, there are two buttons on most of the pages (tabs), Resolve on the left and Copy on the right.
Click on Copy. That adds the report generated (that you can't see yet) to the Windows XP clipboard.
Now come back here, hit Reply at the lower left of this post, and you'll get a new area to type into. Just position the mouse inside the new area, and it turns into the I-bar cursor for typing. Right click and choose Paste. That puts the report into your post. Piece of cake! :-)
