Ability to restore without the restore CD? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I would like to be able to restore a drive or my entire computer without always using the restore CD.  When windows XP is working but not as well as I'd like....I just want to tell the server to put last week's backup onto the boot drive again.

The computer could rewrite the boot sector to point to a partition that contains the restore CD executables or do some fancy boot partition work like Norton Ghost does and then reboot and automatically replace the existing C:\ drive.  After doing so, it could reboot the system and startup XP using the clean copy from last week.

  • I second this idea. Obviously the image formats are different, but I think it would be cool to leverage something like RIS/WDS for machines with PXE NICs.
