Windows must be activated!NOT! RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just had to do a restore for windows using windows back/restore.  After installing the back up, XP was starting up, on the Blue windows XP screen a window titled Window Product Activation came up with a meassage"this copy of windows must be activated with microsft before you can log on. Do you want to activate Windows now?" I clicked yes, the box goes away, then comes back!  I reinstalled windows XP (SP3) fresh, activated windows, then did a restore, it took, then I got this error message again.  I'm trapped!  THis is my company computer and I need my data.

  • The only thing I can think of is that something has changed since the image was made and now. That or the image was somehow corrupted or was not completely succesful in backing up the system state of the computer.

What program did you use to make the original image? Some allow offline viewing or mounting of the image to support accessing files.
