Office not genuine suddenly RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ran Office program, OEM on previous computer, transferred to new computer, now suddenly getting error 'not genuine' message.  Called Microsoft help, they said tell IT Department to fix, IT folks here say, "how is Microsoft's problem our problem?"

Ran diagnostic program per response in another thread.  Does this help?

This is annoying and why Apple looks good to me right now.

The problem here is that the Key in use for Office in one that was not issued by MS, but by a hacker's KeyGen tool.
If your IT department provided you with this key, then they are pirates.
If you bought this software thinking it was genuine, then you should claim a refund from the vendor, and report piracy.
Office Professional Plus is sold only in bulk to organisations for use on their own machines - which is why MS told you to go to your IT dept, as it's supported through them, not direct.

  • Hello CBnotEddy,

You wrote, "Ran Office program, OEM on previous computer, transferred to new computer, now suddenly getting error 'not genuine' message."

Not that the installation on your computer is OEM (it is not OEM, it is a nongenuine volume licensing installation, as Noel posted), but if it were OEM, the Software Licensing Terms (SLTs) do not permit moving the license from the computer onto which it was originally installed to any other computer.
