Server Status Blinking Red/Purple RRS feed

  • Question

  • My HP Mediasmart server is blinking red/purple after upgrading ram.  I pressed the button like an idiot.  She did not boot after I installed thea ram and I misread the instructions and though pressing it would give me the status indicator lights.

Anyway - is there a way to CANCEL the Recover Mode?

  • I have used Server Recovery. When I got my HP MediaSmart (EX475, so two drives), I set it up completely, loaded data, backups, etc. then did a server recovery. Then I did it all again with a new system drive. No problems either time. :)

I have never needed to perform a server recovery (because my server was unbootable or for any other reason), however.

None that I am aware of.  However, you might want to call HP and ask them.

  • You can try powering it down completely (i.e. unplugging it; the button on the back doesn't remove all power from the system), wait 60 seconds, then power it back up.

  • I tried powering her down and unplug cable -- in fact left it that way last night when I went to bed.  This morning power up and still flash red/purple.

I hate to call hp, but it is looking like my only hope.

Have you ever done the recovery on an HP Mediasmart? Should I try recovery and hope my data is still there or should I just resetart and use fresh drives then try to hack my way back to my data?

  • Mine did that also when I upgraded the ram.  I turned it off at the back and then on again.  I'm trying to remember here, but I think it eventually went solid red at which point I Remote desktopped into it and it was fine.  Theres a spot in the settings where you can have the light turn red on errors.  I forget now what the error was, but it cleared up by itself.  Did you get the drives put back in the right order?  Are they seated all the way?

  • I have just suffered that problem today :(

It's due to the order of the hard-drives: you might place the hdd in a different order.

I did, and I keep from working until I put them in the right order.
