Buying retail genuine copy of XP Pro

Question

I want to convert my non-genuine windows XP pro to a legit license. Can I simply pick up a copy at a Best Buy or another retailer, and solve the problem of the pop up and the welcome screen message? Thanks!

Yes, you'll need to purchase a conventional "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional and use the new Product Key to change the non-genuine Product Key using the following program:
The Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool is only valid for users attempting to change their current non-genuine Product Key to a genuine COA sticker or genuine Product Key - all without a reinstall!

When using the Genuine Advantage Product Key Update Tool, do I have to have the old, non geniune serial number, or just the new one that comes with the new full version that I will buy?Tuesday, June 20, 2006 5:22 PM
