Portal - page requests repeating. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We have a portal integrated into a CRM system that we've developed, written in ASP.NET 3.5.

Given typical usage the CPU for the portal worker process (wp) typically trundles along at 0-2%, however we observe that this suddenly jumps to 20-30% and stays there, which to repeat cannot be explained by user activity. On analysing logging (via log4net), we found a bizarre pattern - a request to the server to render a particular page, which could only be kicked off by a portal user clicking a certain button, was being repeated for the same user, 10+ times per second.

Clearly the user isn't generating these multiple requests, so what is???

I'd really appreciate any ideas here on a possible cause, and also on how I might go about analysing/investigating this problem.

    Many thanks,

    Tamim

  • It could be that your performing multiple postbacks, debug your app and see what action occurs when pressing the button.

  • Good idea & did that - and it's definately just the one http request coming in, which then gets processed on the server ad infinitum, as it it were in a loop.

I think I'll simply have to debug (i.e. ProcDump/Windbg...) this. If anyone has any other ideas pls do share them!

    Thanks guys,
