What triggers a delete? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
Does an event trigger a delete or the mere exisistence of no files?  We changed permissions on the right folder of the pair for users.  They no longer have pernmission to files in the right folder.  The left folder (on sync) moved all files to the Recycle Bin.  Users are running Syncro Mode.

We were under the impression that in order for a file to be deleted from either side that a delete action must take place.  From this issue we are having, it would seem that if SyncToy simply sees there are no files on the right (thanks to bad permissions) it removes all files from the left, even if no Delete Action takes place.

If you need any more information please email me at aaron.petrie@holcim.com or answer this post.

If you have an official answer on how SyncToy is triggered for deletions, please email me at aaron.petrie@holcim.com or answer this post.

We are facing a crisis with about 3500 users and do not want to make a move until we understand how SyncToy handles deletions.

    Regards, Aaron Petrie

  • Hi Aaron -

This is working as we intended it to work. If running in Synchronize mode - a user does not have permission to files on one side ( they cannot "see" it) - this means that we delete it on the other side as well. Because it means that any changes made to those files cannot of course be sync'ed across.

What scenario do you have that you want this to not happen?
