CRM 4.0/CRM 2011 still works on a cloned server. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

If I had an exact image of a working CRM 4.0 or CRM 2011 server which includes all server roles, SQL server, SSRS (all in one server), will CRM be automatically working on the cloned VM?

If not, what changes that I need to make in order to make it work? Any references that I can refer to on this matter?

    I am using VMware.

    Thanks

    H.

  • Potentially, yes.  But AD would need to be on that same VM with CRM/SQL/SSRS.

Reason is that if the machine name (NETBIOS Name) of the CRM server changes, it will break CRM, and it would be difficult to add that cloned CRM VM to AD and keep the same name and SID.

Keep in mind that Microsoft will not support CRM on an AD server unless it is Small Business Server.

Microsoft has in the past distrbuted a VM for CRM 4 that has everything on a single VM that can simply be turned on and ran.

They were also distrubuting CRM 2011 in Partner Source that was 2 VM.

With the above restrictions, it may be difficult to run both the clone and the original machine in the same domain network at the same time.
