Restore system OS WHS 2011 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I tried installing windows server 2012 yesterday.  I was considering replacing WHM with it.  I formatted WHS drive, it was a one TB drive. Deleted the two partitions :the small one for WHS and then formatted the drive as one.  My line of thought was that if for some reason I did not like the server 2012 software I could re-store WHS from backups.

I ended up not liking server 2012, it was clunky for me and after the first install and updating some stuff the dam thing locked up.  So I decided to go back to WHS 2011.  I boot the disk, select restore and cannot find the backups.  So I tell it i need to look for drivers to see the folder structure and I see both hard drives, the one with the system back up's and the ones with the client computer backups.

The main computer backup drive is on sata 0 the hard drive I want to restore to is in Sata 1 port.  I am drawing a blank here, why can't the restore disk see the backup drive?  How can I restore in this case?

    Please Help.

  • Not sure why you need to install drivers to see SATA disks. "I boot the disk" - I assume that's the WHS2011 Installation DVD? Suggest putting the drives back onto their original SATA ports before trying again and perhaps disconnect the drive which is not the boot/data drive until the re-install is successful. Is the Server backup drive on an external drive?
