CRM 4.0 - where is DownloadReports.exe, how can PublishReports.exe be used without it?

From what I've read, this tool used to exist in CRM 3.0, but is not in CRM 4.0. There is a PublishReports.exe program however, so what good is the Publish program without the Download program?

PublishReports.exe can be used with the reports supplied with CRM - these are in the Reports\MSCRM directory on the CRM Server media
Otherwise, CRM 4.0 now stores the report RDL within the CRM database (CRM 3 didn't), and will automatically deploy a report if it is in the CRM database, but not in Report Server. Therefore you no longer need to manually deploy reports if you change the Report Server, which I assume is the reason MS discontinued the DownloadReports tool. I think it would still be good to have the tool to allow quick report deployment across CRM deployments, or to be able to export reprots alongside other customisations.

We are developing reports in a development environment, but it is not clear how to move them from development to production. Did anyone actually try and move a report RDL into a CRM database? Can you walk me through the steps to accomplish this?Thursday, May 6, 2010 5:50 PM
