Microsoft Money 2004

Question
-
I have Microsoft Money 2004 installed on my computer - when I got a new computer I was able to reinstall this and since I had kept all of my info it went into the Money files and I have been using this program now for years. Today for some unknown reason I went to My accounts in Money and every thing had changed. When I figured out why I was confused I saw that all the accounts were back to the balances of 2013. I know of no way to get all of the last 3 years back so I can see them. I do all of my accounting with this program. I also have My Passport Ultra as my back up - and I was told it automatically backs us everything on the computer. I can not figure out how to get things back even using this back up program. I looked at it and can not see anything about Money.
How do I get this back, please. I am really sick about this.

Passport Ultra must be configured to back up files. Did you do this? Have you been executing the Money Backup function regularly?
Are you opening the same .mny file that you have entered the recent data in?
Did you accidentally perform an archive in Money?

I have Passport Ultra plugged into a USB port and when it was installed I was told I didn't have to do anything it would automatically back up everything- this was told to me by the person that made my computer and installed everything in it. I have never done anything with the Money Backup function as I was not aware of it.
And the other two things you wrote I do not understand. I am not that savvy with what to do when things go wrong. This type of thing has never happened to me before.
I have tried to look at the manual for this product on line but it only confuses me more. I thought it would be easy to get the files back as they must be on the Passport Ultra but I an at a loss of how to do it. I am a senior and need a little help with some things.

I don't know "Passport Ultra". I presume it is a backup system.
If this is a backup system, the thing that you must have is your latest *.mny and/or your latest *.mbf (Money Backup File). What I would usually expect is that you would install Money on the new computer using the install file that you can download from the link in what is currently the second post on this forum. The version you need depends on where the version of Money that created your Money file came from.
Put the Money file into a folder that you have full access to. Do not put the *.mbf or *.mny file into your Program Files folder. You can put them in your Documents folder unless you have associated a cloud program to mirror your Documents folder.

Money 2004 would not set your accounts back. Something has happened in your computer system which has probably triggered a reset to its initial state.
You need someone knowledgeable who can identify what has happened and recover whatever data may be possible.
WD My Passport Ultra may have backed up your data, assuming it is/was still working. Computer systems do not always warn you when things start going wrong. You need to learn to recognise when there might be problems so that you can call in an expert if you do not feel comfortable resolving problems yourself.

Your 'My Passport' comes with a programme or tool to configure/run/backup stuff. Use this tool to locate Money active or backup files on the passport. Since Money tends to back itself up if not told otherwise you may find unfortunately find that a 'good' version has been overwritten but it's worth a look.

Thanks for all of the hints of what to do about my problem but I finally found one of the answers. I contacted WD and a support person took hold of my computer and found that the program for it had never been installed. That is one reason I could not find any info. ALSO I checked the start menu-search for Microsoft back up and found a list of backups that had been made by Microsoft. I took a chance and hit the one for June 26 the last day I knew Money was working and WOW I had Money back. Now I know how to look for backups either through Microsoft or using the other WD back up. Sometimes this old mind can figure out things after all.
And Dr AS and DominicP I never had a little hidden icon that I could have clicked on and found out all I needed to know. Much like I when I want to know what is going on with my security program.
