Window 7 Ultimate ROW Edi RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there, i bought a copy of win7 Ultimate off ebay, which the seller state is authentic and have COA sticker on it, so i though i will give it a go.

Just received the box today, realize is ROW and made is USA. It also have BT-2715006-MSIN on it. I did a quick google and found out a lot people have issue with MSIN copy.

I want to know if this copy of Window 7 is still legit or not? I have not install or open it so i don't break the seal. If is counterfeit then i will report to seller and get a refund.

How can i do to verify now?

    Thanks

  • It is counterfeit as suspected.

Your Product ID line shows that you are using an MSDN product key.  Unless you are the subscriber who was issued this product key, it is invalid for your use.

    Windows Product ID: 00426-068-3093472-86668

The 068 is the MSDN indicator.  Your retail box and its contents is a counterfeit product.  Many counterfeit copies are being sold on eBay and the Amazon Marketplace as well as various websites around the world.  The product key is not a genuine retail PK.  It is a genuine MSDN product key and so will activate and pass as genuine until it is blocked by Microsoft as an MSDN key in use by a nonsubscriber.  It takes a while for MS to detect and complete processing of abused keys.  The seller plans to be doing something else by then.

Pursue a refund for an item not as described immediately.  Do not accept a replacement product key from the seller.  It will be from the same source.

If in any doubt at all, then claim a refund.
If you want to check, install it using the Key  - but DON'T activate it - and run the MGADiag tool, post the results here, and we'll take a look.
To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

  • Don't take chances.  Return it.  There are no genuine copies being significantly discounted on eBay, Amazon Marketplace, and other sites on the web.  Take a look at this

  • Thanks guys

Was not hoping too much after i saw the youtube video already. Now just confirm is counterfeit.

Already send the ebay seller a message to ask for refund. Will just wait for it.

Will definetly take this as a lesson, and buy from genuine seller. No such thing as bargain windows :(

  • Sorry for the bad news.  I was suckered the same way and learned the same lesson.  It isn't just Windows that the crooks are exploiting.  Office, Adobe products, and other licensed software are being exploited too.

  • Seems I've been dealt the same hand.

My product key on the seal is BTS--2715006-MSIN

When I installed, it activated fine the first time, so I always thought it was genuine.

Since it's now well over 3 months since I installed it the first time, I won't be able to do much about a refund from the seller.

Including the result from the Genuine Advantage Tool. I take it the only way to sort this mess is to get a proper license key from Microsoft to activate Windows with?

Oh well, just have to treat it as a lesson. Gonna buy one Full Retail copy from Dell, i highly doubt that i will get counterfeit this time.

Just though i will share this link too.

Should i get my refund first before i submit the report to Microsoft?

  • Alright, i have submitted a dispute with paypal.

And also submitted a report o Microsoft. it mention to qualify a kit need to send all the documentations & the copy of windows to them.

What is the kit about? If i send to Microsoft i can't send back to the seller.

  • The WGA get genuine kit uses a limited product key (not transferrable, etc).  Basically MS sells you a dvd and an OEM type product key for something less than $100.  It cannot be transferred to another computer or be used to upgrade, just a custom install.  If a full license copy of Windows is what you wanted then you don't want the kit.  And you're right.  You can't get your refund and the kit too.

If you purchase a full license copy of Windows 7 Ultimate all you need to do is change the product key to the new one.  You won't have to reinstall Windows.  So far no one is reporting here that there is any risk in doing that.  That is, no one is reporting malware on the dvds from the counterfeit packages.  That makes sense because the crooks are trying not to draw attention to themselves for as long as possible and malware would do just that.

  • OIC, so that's what the kit about.

I want a full retail copy not OEM, so i will just post the item back to the seller.

Thanks so much for answering my questions.
