  • Hello mara76,

Of course, all use of your Microsoft software is governed by the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) or Software Licensing Terms (SLT).  For Windows XP, to read your EULA, click Start>Run, type winver, click OK, then in the resultant window, click on the link to read the EULA.

Generally speaking, you can cleanly install/reinstall Windows on the same computer as many times as you want to.  If you do too many installations in too short a time, the Windows Activation servers will return an error message "You have installed Windows too many times."  If you encounter this message, please do a Telephonic activation.

If you have an OEM license, you can only install/reinstall that Windows license on that same computer--you are not permitted to move that license to any other computer.

If you have a retail license, you are permitted to move the license from one computer to another.
