1 XP account to 2 VISTA accounts RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Our old PC: XP home. No login password, it just starts up. I have one folder: C:\morten. My wife is using the "My Documents" folder. I am permanently logged in to mesh and syncs C:\morten and "My Documents" with live desktop.

Our new PC: VISTA basic. I have created 2 password protected accounts - MORTEN and WIFE. On account MORTEN I am permanently logged in to mesh and syncs C:\morten with live desktop.

Question: How do I best get my wifes "My Documents" from live desktop to "My Documents" on new PC under account WIFE?

Can I do this?: Share (with mesh) "My Documents" between MORTENLiveId and WIFELiveId, and then permanently log WIFELiveId into mesh under account WIFE, and then sync. It looks rather nice on a drawing.

    Alternatives?

    Cheers,
    Morten

  • Yes, you can do this.

You get a second account for your wife to sign in with when she is under her Windows account and that account is invited to share with the documents folder currently on your account - you merge it into her Documents folder on her account on the new PC.

Alternatively, if you simply want to get the data onto that PC into her documents folder, you can go to www.mesh.com using your LiveID while signed into the PC with her Windows account and manually download all of the files from the Live Desktop to her Documents folder.

On your Windows Account, and Live Mesh account, on the new PC you can choose *not* to sync to the new PC for this folder.

So, option 1 will allow you to keep the documents folder of the old PC in sync with the Live Desktop and your wife's account on the new PC.
Option 2 will allow you to will not keep the 3 places in Sync, you'll do a one time download to her account on the new PC.

If she will continue to use both PCs, the 1st option may make the most sense.

  • Thanks. And yes, we will continue to use both PCs. The old one is mainly hers, the new one is mainly mine, but when we are on the fly, we share the new one.
