Project Manager with access to all resources in the department according to RBS RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like for the Project Manager Group to have access to all resources in the department so they can add them to their plan and be able to see their availability across all projects in the department.  The default Group and Category set up works well to allow project managers to see projects in the department (based on RBS).  We have a three level RBS with Project managers at level 1, team leads at level 2, and resources at level 3.  The Resource center gives Project managers access to resources on level 1 and 2 but not three.  What is the best way to allow Project managers access to all resources?

  • Than you need to configure your category resource settings as follows:

    1. Check "only the resource indicated"

    2. Check the radio button: The user is the resource

    3. Check the radio button: They are member of a Project Team on a Project owned by the User

    4. Check the radio button: They are descendants of the User via RBS

More over, please make sure that all the users have the rite RBS values set. And then by configuring the way above they should be able to access all three levels.

    hope this helps.

  • Hi,

In this case, i.e. to allow PM to access all enterprise resources, you need to change the resource setting of the category attached with your PM group.

open the category for editing, scroll down to the section "Resources" and select the option "All current and future resource in project server database". this will enable the group members to see all the enterprise resources exist in the system.

    hope this helps.

  • Thanks.  I did try that earlier and it does give them access to all resources on the server.  However, I need them to access all resources in the department based on RBS.  So if Project managers are Level 1 on the RBS, I need them to be able to access Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 resources.

  • I don't understand.  Could you provide more specifics about what you're trying
    to do in MPP?

  • Actually my client wants to show only his department resources in Enterprise Resource Pool of MS Project Professional. Is their any way to configure this?

Also, other issue is, PMs of our systems are unable to see any resource in Enterprise Resource Pool of MS Project Professional. I have checked permission and MS PP connection, both are fine. Any thought?

    Thank you
