  • Question

  • Hi.

First of all I would like to say sorry if this has been asked before, but I am ugently after some help and havent looked through the other posts.

Back in 2007 we got Windows XP but it was a bad copy. We purchased the online license and received the CD and code. All good. Then on Sunday my cousin rang me to say his pc wouldnt load up. It just kept booting up and getting to the Windows XP booting screen, then rebooted and kept doing this. I managed to get Windows re-installed using the repair part of the set up process and all went well. Until logging on.....

It came up saying windows wasnt validated and to click here to do this. So I did. Then it came up with msoobe.exe memory error. Ok to continue or cancel to debug.

Activate Windows: msoobe.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x604a296e" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
    memory could not be "read".

By pressing either of this just logs you off. I can get into safemode but i don't know whats wrong with it. I can't install any Cd's to see if its a virus and i cant get onto safemode with networking because it says it isnt validated. I thought I had sorted the issue but I'm stuck!

Any help would be very much appreciated!

  • Hi tk1biglove2009,

As for the error you receive when you attempt to Activate (the only times you need to Validate is when you attempt to download specific files from the Microsoft Download site). Please know that while, in Vista, Activation and Validation are closely linked within the WGA Anti-piracy systems, in XP,  Activation is not directly related to WGA and is supported in the WGA forums on a "best we can do" basis. The main XP support at http://support.microsoft.com would be the primary support provider for major XP Activation issues, such as you are experiencing.

Sorry I couldn't be more help,

  • Hello tk1biglove2009,

Unfortunately, your question about an activation logon/logoff loop is not related to the stated purpose of this support forum, which is the suppport of Microsoft customers who are experiencing problems with the Windows and/or Office Genuine Advantage program.

Please visit one of the Microsoft XP Newsgroups http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx , or one of the many popular general computer support forums on the internet, or go to http://support.microsoft.com for additional support options.

    Good Luck!
