Can't renew: Error Message 2002 - have a phone #?

Question
-
Each time I've tried to renew my subscription (expired today), I get the Message 2002: "Unable to complete request We can't complete your request right now. Please try again later. If you get this message more than once, report it as a recurring problem." and then get dumped into a general FAQ. I just want a phone number I can call so I can get back online again worry-free.

Unfortunately, the phone number is only presented to you if the subscription can be validated during the contact support flow -

The number is not published as trial users are only eligible for email support.
I don't know what the 2002 error means, but see if you can sign in and renew by going directly to http://billing.microsoft.com

I get the error message 2002 no matter what I do. I have been trying to renew for 2 weeks now. If I go directly to http://billing.microsoft.com it says they do not represent Windows Live Care for billing. Someone please help if you can. Thank you.Wednesday, April 16, 2008 3:13 AM

Basically, you are trying to renew with the wrong LiveID. That is supported by the fact that you don't see your account at the Billing site, either.
If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

When I try to subscribe during my free trial time, I get an error message on AOL that the file is too large. How can I get around this or find a phone number to get customer support?

Try setting Internet Explorer as your default web browser by going to Program Access and Defaults on the XP Start Menu. Then start the activation process from within OneCare.
Once complete, reset the default web browser to AOL, if you wish.
If you continue to have problems, please contact OneCare support.

Steve, I went to the billing site and got:
No billing accounts
This Windows Live ID does not currently have a billing relationship with Microsoft. MSN offers a variety of services that you may subscribe to. For more information, go to http://join.msn.com/.
I have 18 days left to figure this out. Bob

Bob, that would mean that you are not using the correct LiveID to sign in at the Billing site (or to renew from within OneCare).
Open OneCare, click on Help/About... Note the subscription ID shown
Open your browser and sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with the LiveID shown as the subscription ID in OneCare.
Select the OneCare subscription shown.
Click "renew this service."
You should see a page with the following (as of 2/26/08 verified with a US paid account):
Plan Description
To renew your subscription with a Product Key or prepaid PIN, click here.
To renew your subscription with a credit card, direct debit, or other payment method, click Next.
Select the option you prefer and provide the requested information. Note that renewal takes effect on the date that your current subscription expires and that it may take up to 24 hours to reflect the updated subscription status in OneCare.
If the LiveID is not shown in OneCare Help/About, and you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.
