DIRECTOR SERVER ROLE RRS feed

  • Question

  •

We saw in Planning Tool for OCS 2007 R2 is necessary used  “DIRECTOR SERVER ROLE”, is this Role obligatory or we can integrate in the following roles:

    1.       Archiving Server, monitoring server

    2.       OCS Standard Edition, Update Server

    3.       Communicator Web Access Server

    4.       Mediation Server

    5.       Edge Server

We work with only 50 users

    Thanks

  • I completely concur with Jeff's point - typically it's overkill for a company your size unless your organization has a high attack profile or needs to implement the highest security.

  • It is not required, but is recommended for security reasons when you deploy an Edge.

  • Almost all small deployments I see don't use the Director role due to the additional hardware required, so other than for added security benefits Mike mentioned you'll still get full feature functionality from OCS with it.

  • Thanks Jeff and Mike, our company is small and doesn´t need highest security, so we don´t implement this role.
