Backing up WHS 2011 running under Hyper-V on Windows Server 2008 R2? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have set up WHS 2011 running under Hyper-V on a Windows Server 2008 R2 OS.

I have data stored on a virtual disk as well as a disk connected as a physical disk (not virtual).

What's the best way to make sure my WHS system is sufficiently backed up?  I know within WHS I can choose a server backup, but how would this work with the VHD?

Would I be better off backing up the WHS system from within the Windows Server 2008 OS?

Also, I've read that all of the storage drives should be set up as physical drives and not virtual VHD drives.  Any opinions on this?  Should I copy my data from the VHD drive (2 TB storage space) to another drive, then delete the VHD drive and place back as a physical drive?

    Any advice would be appreciated.Thanks.
