Windows 7 build 7600 not genuine,please help. RRS feed

  • Hi, as per the advice on this forum i have scanned my laptop and got the report as follows, the problem is that after buying my laptop from PC World UK i had it less than an hour and i got the windows flashing up telling me my build was not genuine, i do not have a product key as Windows 7 came pre-loaded on my laptop and i cannot get windows to recognise that it is genuine, please help!

  • Look on the bottom of your laptop or inside the batter comnpartment for a COA sticker. Not the key that is on the sticker and change the product key, entering that key then activate by phone. You must activate that key by phone. To change the product key go to the control panel, system and it will bring up the system properties page, scroll to the bottom and click on change product key. To activate by phone simply type SLUI 4 in the search box of the start menu, hit enter, select country, dial the number but do not enter any menu options, wait for a person to answer and activate

  • Hi, i followed the first steps and that seems to have worked, i got a message saying windows was validated, do i still need to phone to validate?

  • Yes, because the new key probably put you into a grace period, but to be sure, submit a new report.
