The computer I am using was purchased new April 2009, I am now getting the message "This copy of MS Office is not genuine, in 6 days office application will be marked as not genuine".
I ran the diagnostic tool, here's the results:

Hello memeka,
Sometimes manufacturer recovery discs are a "nuclear option" in that they function in only one way, they "nuke" the contents of the hard disk drive and reimage it back to factory condition.
Other times, you can selectively restore applications and drivers one by one.
IF your Acer recovery discs are the kind that can selectively restore applications, and IF the computer came with a perpetually licensed copy of Office (as opposed to the very commonly installed trial editions), then you should be able to put a genuine Office back onto the computer using the recovery discs and the selective application restore feature. But, both of those "IFs" have to be true.
If you think that might be possible, it would be worth the time to visit the Acer user-to-user support pages to ask experienced Acer users how to get that done.
The pages you are seeing regarding ordering copies of Office as part of the Genuine Office Offer are only viewable when you have nongenuine Office installed, so I cannot see them as you do. However, this is what is written in the FAQ:
"Office Genuine Advantage Kit: For those customers who have failed Office validation and do not qualify for, or choose not to take advantage of, the complimentary offer, Microsoft will provide an Office Genuine Advantage Kit at special online prices. This kit will be available for the following Office editions:- Microsoft Office Professional 2007
- Microsoft Office Small Business 2007
- Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007"
So if the "special online price" is the same as the usual retail price, that's not such a special deal, is it!
I am not a Microsoft employee so I have no influence over the Genuine Office Offer pricing decisions, but I can certainly make a comment about it at the blog page of one of the Genuine Advantage Program Honchos, Alex Kochis, to ask him about the pricing. I would encourage you to do so, too. Here is his Blog: http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/genuinewindows/default.aspx

From your submitted MGA report:

Microsoft Office XP Professional - 114 Blocked VLK 2
Unfortunately, your installed copy of Microsoft Office XP Professional is non-genuine. It is a Volume License copy installed with a product key that has been blocked from use by Microsoft because the original owner reported the license to be lost, stolen, or misused.
You can review your options by visiting Microsoft Genuine Advantage and clicking on Validate Office. When validation fails, you will be presented with a Get Genuine button to click on.Also see:

To replace the non-genuine XP Pro with a genuine XP Pro, it would cost as much as the computer itself. So that I don't loose any data or information, am I bound to that version? Can I purchase an older version MS Office to save some money? Please let me know.
"Live and Learn" I now know why the computer was so inexpensive, even though I bought it through a reputable, authorized dealer.
Thanks for any advice.

Hello memeka,
You are free to purchase whatever version and/or edition of Office that suits your needs.
The way the Microsoft Office Genuine Offer is set up, Microsoft will sell you a replacement for your Office XP at a discounted price, but the only version Microsoft has to sell is Office 2007. If you need or want an earlier version of Office, Microsoft will not be able to sell it to you.
If you decide to purchase Office from a source other than Microsoft, please be extra careful shopping at lesser known local and internet retailers. There is a lot of counterfeit software out there! Please visit www.howtotell.com to learn more about what to look for when shopping.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately, the disks that came with the computer are labeled "Recovery DVD" for distribution only with a New Acer PC. So it does not qualify as a high grade counterfeit.
I did not see where XP Pro was discounted, $499 seems to be MSRP. Yes? (PC Connection's price is $479.95).
Please advise.Monday, October 19, 2009 2:11 PM -
