How can I apply for Win 7? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get the message that my computer isn't running a valid Win 7 product. I went to the page that allows me to ask for free Win 7. I filled it out but for one thing, the date. No matter what I tried the date function would not work. I could not fill in the purchase date of the product.

Now I have to say this. I bought this computer brand new from Office Max. It was running Win 7. I decided to buy Win 8 from Microsoft and install it on this computer . Hated Win 8  so I took it off and had a tech install Win 7 again.

Now, I tried, as noted to use the Windows/MS page to get this current system approved but got stuck. Now what? I did try the suggested solutions e.g. going into the system and making certain that the correct boxes were checked. That did nothing.

I need the page address again - can't find it and I'm not a computer savvy person. How can I get the page to accept the data it asks for?

    Thanks

  • What is the specific make and model number of your computer?

  • Toshiba  Satellite C855D S5229. The original Win 7 on the computer is <redacted>. No doubt I should have kept it but Win 8 looked enticing.

I had a tech in Selma CA reinstall Win 7. I found the code for the one he put on but don't recall the date exactly. I know it was shortly after Win 8 came out.

Hope this answer the question. I'd sure like to get this resolved.

  • In order to analyze and troubleshoot your issue, please download and run the  Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool.  Then click on the Continue button, the Copy button, and then paste in this thread.  Thank you!

  • To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )

     Once saved, run the tool.

Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

      - in your own thread, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
