Can not activate my purchased copy. Am getting ZERO help RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have exactly the same problems the other guys have. I spent $40.00 and deleted my virus protection. and can not get help after 2 weeks of trying. see below.

i purchased windows live one care put it my computer started out with free trial version. a message appeared telling me to subscribe subsciption will expire in_ days .when i tried to do this the program would not accept any of my live ids so i tried my old email(still active) still no luck . tried creating a new one with no result, then i went to billing info  there  is no info subsription expired it says so i can't even see what id i used to install this in the first place.i can't find any help anywhere ! no phone number to call or anything.so  on i go 4 days of trying everything with no luck so i uninstall the program and try to reinstall .i cannot even reinstall completely ,still stuck at do you have a windows live id.result i am out 80$, my computer is now completely unprotected and i am extremely frustrated .i can't believe i paid money for this, all the waste of my time and frustration just to end up with an expired subscription(that should not expire for untill next year), a useless program on a useless disc in a nice useless plastic case(all this for 80$ and about 14 hours of wasted time (good deal yes). so unless some one out there can help i guess i'm screwed and will probably have to buy another program ( you can be sure it won't be windows live)

I have no idea why it would not accept any LiveIDs.

Please explain what you encountered when you signed in?

In any event, you can contact support via email as a trial user per the instructions in the FAQ and I recommend that you do so. Support can advise you the LiveID for your subscription.

How to reach support (FAQ) - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2421771&SiteID=2

You state that you are out 80$ - is this for a retail copy or did you activate online already previously?

Now that you are unable to reinstall, what error are you encountering? I suggest using the cleanup tool -

    http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2

You note that you have been to the Billing site. It will only show a subscription for the LiveID you successfully activated with, so it would appear, if you already activated once, you are now looking at the billing site with the wrong LiveID. Try different IDs.

  • I to paid $60 for this (no body to talk to POS). I have uninstalled and re-installed and now it's red again asking to subscribe. I did subscribe already or it wouldn't work in the first place. When I try to register again it says that the code key already exist please close. What the Heck? Anyone have an answer. I don't want to contact Microsoft for $ 250 a claim question.

If you have an active subscription, which is what was created when you activated on the first computer, you need to use the same LiveID on the subsequent activations. You can't use the same key twice. If you are arriving at a screen to purchase or provide a token, you are likely not using the same LiveID as the subscription ID.

If you don't recall the LiveID you used for your subscription, you will need to contact support who can provide that information to you using your Key and/or contact information.

Alternatively, sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with email addresses that you have set up as LiveIDs and one will show your subscription listed - that would the LiveID to use to activate the reinstall.

Did you reinstall OneCare? When you subscribed online, did OneCare activate on the PC or did it not complete activation?

If you sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with the LiveID you subscribed with, do you see the active subscription?

If you subscribed online and OneCare never activated, something is blocking the last step in activation, which is the activation response. I suggest that you contact support.

    FRUSTRATED123456789

Join the group.  I entered my problem earlier TODAY.  A few months back, I purchased and installed Windows Live One Care...when this happened, I was fortunate enough to have a 90 day trial, prior to actually using the installed software.  When the 90 days elapsed, I then entered into my one year of protection.

UNFORTUNATELY,  I had system board problems, and my computer was sent to have the SB replaced.  OF COURSE, my computer was subjected to a FORMAT AND RECOVERY.....THEREFORE, I lost all my passwords, and my Windows Live ID.

WELL....you know the rest of the story....I CANNOT REINSTALL THE SOFTWARE, AND THE PROGRAM WILL NOT ACCEPT MY PRODUCT KEY....states that another computer is using it, and I must install the second version on another computer, BUT MUST PROVIDE THE SAME WINDOWS LIVE ID, that I used to activate the first installation.

WHAT A MESS...considering the fact that I am using the same computer...and only need to REACTIVATE the first installation.

NO PHONE NUMBER TO CALL,.....NO HUMAN PERSON TO TROUBLESHOOT THIS PROBLEM....MICROSOFT HAD BETTER BE READY TO REFUND...OR AT LEAST PROVIDE SERVICE FOR ANOTHER YEAR AT NO COST.

I AM GOING TO TRY TO GET A SOLUTION AT THE STORE WHERE MY SOFTWARE WAS PURCHASED....YOU MIGHT TRY THE SAME

    GOOD LUCK.

  • You're lucky. I donwloaded the trial version, which worked fine. As soon as I agreed to purchase it, it stopped working - but it doesn't ever say whats wrong. the red button just came on, and it tells me to go to the help center, which can't help me because i don't know what caused the red button to come on in the first place. there's not a discussion thread for "product inexplicably stops working once you pay for it", but from the looks of all these other posts, i guess there oughta be one.

I've tried to follow the links that mr. boots gives to everyone else that directs them to email support, only to go to that link and see that there is a message from mr. boots back in november of 2007 that admits that the link he is providing doesn't work yet - newsflash - it still doesn' t. If this product was a car, it'd be recalled. you'd think that for the wealthiest company in the modern world, that they'd have LIVE support for a product called LIVE.

Apparently, I need to edit that post.

The post for how to reach support clearly explains how to open an email support case, however, I may have edited the original so much that it doesn't read well. I'll revisit that shortly.

There is live support. The problem is that your subscription needs to be validated in order to access more than email support.

In any event, open OneCare and click Help/About...

    What is your version number?

Make sure you know the Subscription ID as you will need to use that to activate after a reinstall.

    Uninstall OneCare - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=663806&SiteID=2

Download and run the cleanup tool - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=828910&SiteID=2

(note that you will need to save the tool to your desktop and then right click the file and select "Run as administrator" if you are using Vista)

And then install OneCare from http://onecare.live.com and activate with the same LiveID used to originally subscribe.
