Others may reply with more information but it appears to me that you are attempting to install a Gateway Computer company OEM version of XP on a Compaq computer. That won't work.
What does the label on the disk say? Does it have any company logo to wording on it as to identify it as an OEM from Gateway?
Does the computer have a COA, probably on the back of the computer. What does that say in reference as to the computer manufacturer? DO NOT post the 25 character key.

LVTravel is correct! You cannot use a Windows XP recovery disc developed for a Gateway computer on a non-Gateway computer such as your Compaq PC. If you need a Compaq recovery disc, please see: Order Recovery Discs for Windows 7, Vista, or XP
