received email - is this a MS email doman? email.microsoftemail.com RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Today I received an email which appears to be from Microsoft - Visual Studio team

I don't recognize the origin domain: email.microsoftemail.com. Also a search in google of Microsoft domains shows a Wikipedia entry that does not list this domain as a MS domain. So the other part of my question is, what is the correct procedure to verify this is not phishing or other attack email ?

Whois email.microsoftemail.com appears to show this is coming from Microsoft.

Just wanting to make sure it is not phishing email. Call me paranoid but these days it pays to be cautious

    Thanks for any input.

  • Hi,

    Welcome to MSDN forum.

As far as I know, Microsoft use e-mail.microsoft.com. I can’t give you a definite answer because our forum is to talk about Visual Studio WPF/SL Designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System, and Visual Studio Editor. I recommend you ask it in here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us

    Best regards,

    Joyce

  • Check the domain registration and ownership with one of the available WHOIS services.  For example, https://whois.icann.org
