Printer sharing problem; Printer sharing was not accepted for this printer on this pc RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Our home network consists of two pc's, both laptops, one running XP Home and the other running Vista (32). The XP pc is wired to the network router and the Vista pc uses wireless (although we've tried wired also). Both pc's are able to use the internet. Both are running Onecare. Originally the XP pc was designated as the Onecare hub, but now we have neither set as the hub. When the XP pc was set as the hub, it seemed to be able to detect the Vista pc's Onecare status, so there is some communication between the two pc's across the network.

The problem is, we cannot get printer sharing or file sharing to work. The printer is connected to the XP pc. From Onecare on the XP pc, when we refresh the shared printer list, this is the error we receive:

Printer sharing was not accepted for this printer on this pc.

From Onecare on the Vista pc, when we refresh the shared printer list, this is the error we receive:

    Encountered a problem synchronizing.

The firewall settings on both machines are as follows:

    Home or Work

    Advanced – all on.

Ports/Protocals – all printer sharing on

All settings are configured as suggested in these threads:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We've been trying to get this to work for weeks.

    Thanks!

  • Try the follwing:

Open OneCare on each of the computers.

    Click Change Settings

On the firewall tab, click configure firewall

If the network is shown as Public, click Change Location to change it to "Home or Work."

    Click the Advanced Settings button

    Click Network connections tab.

If there are multiple active connections shown, you may need to disable them in your Windows network connections settings. (Network and Sharing Center, manage connections, in Vista; Right click My Network Places and select Properties on the Start menu in XP)

On the Ports and Protocols tab, add a check mark next to File and Printer Sharing - for subnet and Internet if the first setting alone (after all of the above are verified) does not allow Sharing to work.

If all of the above fail, please contact support.

  • Steve,

I was hoping that the error messages would help with a solution.

Printer sharing was not accepted for this printer on this pc

    Encountered a problem synchronizing

These errors do not seem to come up in and searches. As we've tried everything you suggested, should we just contact OneCare support?

    Thanks for you help,

    Dennis

  • The message doesn't give me any clue as to the cause of the problem, so it may be a good idea to contact support.
