When will Live Mesh Finish Beta Testing and go Live RRS feed

  • Question

  • When will Live Mesh Finish Beta Testing and go Live.

I want to use it for my business for online backup but am not sure if it is going to go ahead or if/what it is going to cost when it does.

Can onyone offer any clue as to when it will go live and what the cost will be

    Thanks

  • Live Mesh is not intended for online backup. It is intended for file sync between devices, remote access to devices in your Mesh and access to some files from any PC at www.mesh.com - the Live Desktop.

There has been no announcement about release or cost. However, sources are reporting that the next version will be merged with Live Sync - http://sync.live.com and will be free, as Live Sync is today.

  • I'd check out Windows Home Server as a possible backup solution for small business.  I'm using one at home and while it's a different set of functionality than Sync it does have some nice remote features that can be accessed via a website on the server (and I believe even RDP though I haven't experimented with that yet).

A merge would be useful between quite a few of these products, as the different sync and storage solutions from Microsoft (mesh, live sync, skydrive etc) are confusing. It's unclear the direction that MS are going with this, unless it's a scattered approach to see what sticks.... :)
