  • Question

  • Hello,

I've passed exam 432 - Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance
and own the Certification Microsoft® Certified Technology Specialist - SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance (Certification Number : C688-0100).

I've read about the upgrade process to achieve MCSA 2012.

Can you please confirm that in order to achieve MCSA 2012, I need to pass the exams 457&458 ?

I want to make sure, before I'll purches the exams.

    Thanks,

    Roni.

  • Because you have passed exam 432, you should be able to find your additional exam requirements here

  • Yes, you are right. The page actually says "any MCTS or ...", so the MCTS: Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Implementation and Maintenance that you gained with exam 432 would qualify. Therefore, exams 457 and 458 should suffice for gaining your upgrade.

To be completely sure, you can log-in with your MCP credentials into the MCP site, and run the Certification Planner (linked at the top right of the dashboard). If the above considerations are indeed correct, the certification planner should offer to you the option to upgrade by means of 457 and 458.

  • Yes, from this page:

    https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/mcsa-sql-certification.aspx

under the section "How to upgrade....", you can see that if you have the MCSA 2008 you can upgrade to MCSA 2012 by passing exams 457 and 458.

Note, however, that this requires you to have the *complete* MCSA 2008, which requires not only exam 432 but also 448. If this is not the case and you are missing 448, then instead of taking the three exams 448+457+458 (MCSA 2008+upgrade) you may consider 461+462+463 (directly MCSA 2012).

  • Thanks for your answer, but it says in the link that:

You can upgrade any MCTS or MCSA certification on SQL Server 2008 to the MCSA: SQL Server 2012 certification.

And I think that I'm qualified for it, as I passed exam 432, isn't it?
