Website Rankings Dropped on MSN - Was Number 1 !! RRS feed

    Hi

Up until a few months ago, our website - http://www.gbdriver.co.uk ranked number one in MSN for our main key word - "Car Accessories"

Today, if I search - I give up looking ... I just cannot find the site anywhere? Although this does vary on a regular basis. At best, I found us on page 4 .

What is frustrating is that above us now in search results for 'car accessories' are , with the exception of a few, mainly less relevant, older and much smaller websites - most of which do not even sell car accessories at all, or online?

We do all web design work ourselves in house. We do not use any bad methods for optimising the site. I have checked MSN webmaster tools and I cannot see any obvious problems there - we have plenty of pages cached in MSN, plenty of pages linking to us, and no blocked pages. We are usually between 3rd or 4th in a certain other search engines results - so I am totally baffled as to why MSN has decided not to be friends with us any more

I have recently added the robots file to tell MSN to read our meta description, as I noted is was using a very poor description from a manually edited directory; although as yet , these changes havent been picked up.

Please, please, please can you offer any assistance?

We would really like to see our site back on MSN again, and would appreciate any information or help you can offer.

    Thanks in advance.
    Dan

  • Needles,

Your currently ranking extremely low. I suggest reading the FAQs located at the top of the crawling and Ranking forums. I also suggest reading our posts located at http://www.blogs.msdn.com/webmaster

  •  sorrry to here about this, as I know not being on the first page could really take a chunk out of incoming business. I'm doing my best to just get on the first page at http://www.threecountwrestling.com

  • Hi, I have the exact same problem, my site www.shidokanmontreal.ca ranks very good (top5) in the 2 other search engines, using the same keywords.
A few weeks ago everything was ok in MSN , I was in the top5 as well, but suddenly -using the same search criteria- my site doesn't show up.
I used the words " Kendo Montreal" and then "Montreal Kendo" ... using the webmaster tools I noticed the when I search "Kendo Montreal" I don't get nothing at all, and apparentely when I write "Montreal Kendo" I get one result.. but god knows where it is.

Also in the webmasters tool it shows that when crawling,.. it didn't find this page:  http://www.shidokanmontreal.ca/index.html  , which is weird because that page has never ever been removed.

    Help Please !

  • Same problem here. One minute we're on page 1, next minute we've been slapped hard and don't even appear in the top 20 pages. Seemingly for no reason. No similar slaps on any other engine so now sure how Live's algorithm is working this out.

Tons of pages, tons of backlinks, good page scores and no blocked pages.

My best guess is that we've managed to acquire a bad link somewhere, as the content hasn't changed enough to warrant this drop in ranking.
