IE7 "Find on this Page (ctrl-F) does not work on forums home RRS feed

  • Question

  • On the MSDN Forums Home page http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories/, if you press CTRL-F and search for a topic to identify the right forum, the search does not find any results for any thing I have searched on.  Just for test, I searched for Microsoft.  The page search did actually find 4 instances of Microsoft right near the top of the page.  But try opening the MSDN Forums Home in a new window or tab.  Then press CTRL-F.  Then search for WCF or wcf or Windows or Communication and it does not find anything.  Even try searching for Developing (a word that occurs many times in the page) and search on this page does not find the word.

Because of the lack of a good hierarchical forum navigation/selection tool, the broken page search is particularly problematic.  To try to find the right forum, you have to read the entire very long page and hope that you don't miss the right description the first time down the page.

Can the forum page layout be re-written to accommodate the CTRL-F Search on this Page functionality in IE7?

By the way, the search in the page works properly in FireFox but login doesn't work in FireFox (I'll post that in a separate thread).

    Thanks,

    Dale

  • I see you're right. I does, however, seem to work in IE8. Also, we revamping how our pages are rendered, so it should take care of this issue in IE7.

    Thanks

  • Thanks, Matt.

By the way, do the notifications not work?  I only discovered that you had responded here when I looked at the page.  It is a good thing I had an Outlook reminder set to check for a response.  I did not get any notification that there was a response.

  • Alert notifications should be working. The Alert Me option must be selected of course, and also verify the configuration of your alerts settings for your LiveID account at http://alerts.live.com
