How do you Move CRM 3.0 Database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 on a different server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to move my CRM 3.0 database from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 on a different
machine.  How do I do this?  I also want to upgrade CRM 3.0 to CRM 4.0
Would you do a new install and migrate the data over or would you do an
upgrade from CRM and then move the database?  Thanks.

  • If the end goal is to have a 4.0 implementation, then you could also just use the following steps:
    - Backup/restore the 3.0 DBs to the SQL 2005 server
    - Edit Registry on CRM server to point to the new SQL machine
    - Upgrade CRM

The upgrade doesn't actually require CRM to be "functioning".  I believe you could also uninstall CRM 3.0 and then install 4.0 and just point to the CRM DBs on SQL 2005.

do a sql backup on 2000 of _mscrm and _metabase db's
    restore on sql 2005
    Make sure SSRS is operational
use the re-deployment wizard can connect to dbs
    install CRM 3
install rollups (see what rollups are installed on old server)

  • Thanks for your reply.  I am only interested in moving the database, not CRM to another server.  Based upon this fact I will back and restore the database to 2005, use the redeployment tool to reconnect the database and then upgrade to CRM 4.  Is this all correct?  Thanks.
