Guidelines and Expectations RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm wondering if the Live Search team can give us some guidelines regarding crawling and indexing of websites.  What should our expectations be as to when and how often our websites will be crawled?

    For examples:

    - for a new website, how long after submission of a website should we expect that it be crawled?

    - for a new website, how long after submission of a website should we expect that it be showing up in the index?

    - for an existing website (one already crawled), how long after submission should we expect that it be recrawled

    - how long before it is reindexed - the old pages removed and the new ones added to the index?

    - under normal circumstances, how often does the Live bot recrawl a website?

    - what percentage of pages of a small website (say, under 30 pages, or choose another number) should we expect to be in the Live index?

    - what percentage of pages of a large website (say, over 30 pages, or choose another number) should we expect to be in the Live index?

    - what are the reasons that pages will be removed from the Live index (apart from changes in the search algorithms themselves)?

I realize that all websites are different, but it should be possible to lay out some general guidelines to set expectations.

    Thanks....Duane

  • Unfortunately, there is not. Most of that information is kept privy to only a few individuals.
