  • Hello Brian McArthur,

You wrote, "Is this a retail or MSDN key?"  Strictly speaking the answer to your question is "Both" because MSDN keys are classified as retail keys.

But your real question is something along the lines of, "Did the installed product key become blocked because it is a blocked MSDN product key?" and that answer to that question is, "Very likely so, and Darin Smith the Microsoft moderator can double-check it for us and give us the final word."

If you have a look at the forum sticky post by Carl_OH http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinewindows7/thread/a2444f34-0aff-4f29-a8ac-67e28b0c0285  it covers the bases.

I have seen this many times on eBay.  It truly is representative of a seller peddling non-genuine software licenses.  Buyer beware!

    It really should read:

Q: Is this a trial licence or will the licence expire?
A: No, this is not a trial licence. The licence will never expire [until Microsoft discovers it as an illegal license and blocks it]

Q: Where do the licences come from?
A: The keys are issued directly from Microsoft and only after payment is received. [Well, not really - I'm selling them illegally!]

    Q: Is the licence legitimate?
A: Yes, this is 100% legitimate and authentic [but only until WGA sniffs it out and classifies it as non-genuine]

Q: Will the licence pass Microsoft’s Window Genuine Advantage (WGA)?
A: Yes, the licence will pass WGA as the key is issued directly from Microsoft [maybe today or tomorrow but it will evenually fail validation]

Q: Will the licence allow for product updates?
A:Yes, the key will allow for product updates for the  life of the computer or installation [that life will end when the license is deemed non-genuine]

Q: Will the licence allow for tech support from Microsoft?
A: Yes, the licence will allow for telephone tech support directly from Microsoft [You bet!  They will happily sell you a 'genuine' license]

Q: Will you send me a copy of the software?
A: No, this listing is not for a copy of the software [Well of course not....we don't want to leave forensic evidence around to track us pirates down]

  • Thank you for the response it is much appreciated ! At least now I know for sure, so my response can be appropriate to the        . Well I can't say the Word here. Thanks again lesson learned, unfortunately to late. I just though I had more time than 60 days to issue a charge back on my CC. that is why I even took the risk of a DL'ed copy. I just assumed as with other posters, that if it took the Key at installation it must be good! Had no Idea diff between MSDN and retail key :'-( until now! Thanks again!
