Windows Activation problem

Question
-
Hi, i had to perform a destructive reinstall on my laptop (vista) because there were problems affecting my computer that i apparantly couldnt solve. Windows seemed to reinstall itself fine (not from a disk, from the machine itself) and i upgraded to SP2, with everything still working fine. During the installation, i was not asked for the product key.
A few days later, my desktop goes blank and the "Windows is not genuine" message is at the bottom right hand corner. I was asked for a Windows Activation key, and i typed in the serial underneath my laptop but it says the code is invalid.
I could do with this issue being resolved because i'm a student and i can only get limited use out of my computer, which is fairly irritating.
Thanks.

Use the Different Product Key option - it should take you through the process of inputting your COA Key, and then activating it.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

Your copy of Windows is based on an OEM SLP key from a Dixons computer (usually Advent) - but the motherboard appears to be a retail product from ECS. Have you changed motherboards for any reason? Have you perhaps sent the machine to a tech for repair? If your machine has a COA sticker on it, for which version and edition of Windows is it valid? (do NOT post the key!)If the sticker is for Vista Home Premium, you should be able to activate by telephone using the key on the sticker - to change the Key, go to the System Properties page, and use the link at the bottomYou may or may not need to activate by phone....To activate by phone, click on the Start buttonin the Search box, typeSLUI 4and hit the Enter keyelect your country, and follow the instructions - you will get an automated service. If that fails, phone back, and this time do NOT respond when asked which service you require - this should force an operator to pick up, who can assist you.

Yes its an Advent laptop, but no it has never been in for repairs and i have never modified the inside of the machine in any way.
The sticker is for Home Premium so i will follow your advice from here and get back to you

Ok so i type in SLUI 4 in the search bar which brought up the Windows Activation window, but it only gives me 3 options : Buy a new product Key, Type a different Product Key and Contact Advent for support (all this does is bring up the windows help and support window)
i cant find a number / option to activate by phone

Use the Different Product Key option - it should take you through the process of inputting your COA Key, and then activating it.
