Downloading Multiple Files From WebShare RRS feed

  • Question

  • If you send a link to a webshare and the recipient wants to download (save) some of the pictures to their local computer, WHS insists on zipping the photos into 1 file before downloading them.  This is not very user friendly for people who are not familiar with zipped files and how to extract the photos.  It also doesn't seem to make much sense since most photos are jpg format which is already compressed, so there isn't a lot to be saved in file size.  Is there a way to tell WHS to download the selected photos individually instead of zipping them?  The workaround, of course, is for people to download them 1 at a time (since WHS is smart enough not to zip a single photo), but would be nice to let them select all desired photos and just click download.

The only other options are to A)  download the files as a self-extracting executable file (exe) or B)  to use an add-in called WebFolders4WHS.

  • Zipping (or otherwise encapsulating) multiple files for download is probably done for efficiency. Downloading many files via the HTTP protocol, one at a time, requires setting up and tearing down a separate connection for each file. That takes time and bandwidth.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • I'll look into WebFolders4WHS.  Never head of it until now.  Thanks!
