WHS and a new external Harddisk RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear mr/mrs

As a new Windows Home Server user, I have a few questions.

I have installed WHS on a pc with a 160 GB HD, it is automatically put into 2 partitons by WHS itself.

By default WHS stores the shared data on D:\Shares\xxxx and it works fine.

I am able to access the share internal and external by [name].homeserver.com. This all workis very well.

But now I bought an external HD of 1 TB using the USB 2.0 port of the WHS pc.

    My questions are:

-How to move all the shares to the external HD and making it the only drive to share the data.

-And how to make it still accessible from the internet as well?

In advance thank you for your time.

    Kind regards,

  • You can't control how Windows Home Server uses drives, other than by adding a drive to the storage pool (in which case it will be part of pooled storage), adding it as a backup drive (in which case it can be used to back up your shares), or not adding it to server storage at all. So you can't "move" the shares, and there's no need to do anything for them to remain accessible from the Internet.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
