Posts not deleted but left in place with the text crossed out

Question

When I delete a post I want it to vanish.
I don't want it to still be listed in the thread only with each letter crossed through.
(Example: http://forums.technet.microsoft.com/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/4cba5aca-08af-463e-bf41-b93b9fdf3eb8/ where the second post is a dupl.)
Similarly when I delete a thread I want it no longer to appear in the list of threads for a forum.
(Deleting threads seems to work correctly if there is only one message in a thread but doesn't if there are any replies)- Edited by Mike Walsh FIN Friday, July 25, 2008 6:20 PM Example added

only moderators see the deleted messages with cross-thru so that they can be undeleted.

Thanks, that clears up the problem with individual *posts* being deleted.
The problem is that *as a Moderator* I don't want to see threads that I have deleted appear in the list of threads.
The usual reason for me deleting a thread is because it's a duplicate. So in the list of threads I now still have two threads listed with the same name and am likely to waste time accessing them again to check if they are also the same text only to find I've already deleted one and am wasting my time.
The previous solution - moving them to a Moderator / Deleted Threads forum - meant that they were still un-deletable but no longer listed in the list of threads *for the original forum* that a Moderator sees.
I hope the above text is understandable ! -
